Description of Services: Breast screening for early detection of breast cancer

Screening includes mammography (x-rays of breast tissue) * screening results are sent to both the individual and doctor

Individuals who receive normal results are automatically recalled for their next screening appointment through letter notice from Cancer Care Ontario (call to book) * abnormal results are referred to their doctor for further investigation, or are referred directly for additional tests * Individuals without a family doctor can be referred to OBSP doctor designate at the hospital if required

Fees: Covered by OHIP
Eligibility - Population(s) Served: People 40-74 years with no breast cancer symptoms, no diagnosis of breast cancer, no current breast implants, and people 30-69 years identified as being at high risk for breast cancer
Application: Call for appointment * no referral required for people between 40 and 74 years * medical referrals also accepted for people between 30 and 69 years * referral required for individuals under the age of 40 or over the age 75
